![]() ![]() Strangely enough, that experiment seems to have worked, and the final product is one of the more exhilarating movie thrillers of late. Though it shares a similar story structure with the Tarantino film, "Amores Perros" is definitely its own beast - an odd Frankenstein-like creation with bits that seemed to have been transplanted from not just Tarantino's works but also those of Pedro Almodovar. But there's no denying that it does have quite a few things in common with Quentin Tarantino's cult-adored 1994 crime piece, which inspired a whole slew of inferior knock-offs. ![]() That's not meant as a knock against this gritty Mexican thriller, which lost out to "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" for this year's Best Foreign Film Oscar. ![]() To be honest, comparisons between "Pulp Fiction" and "Amores Perros" probably wouldn't be unfair.
